REAL MAN · Size and fit
Comfort depends on the waist, rise, thigh and leg shape together. A single number cannot describe all of them.
A label is a starting point
W/L labels generally refer to waist and inside leg, often in inches, but labelled sizes are not guaranteed to be exact finished-garment measurements. Do not assume the same number fits identically across brands.
Measure a suitable pair
Fasten the trousers and lay them flat. Measure the waist without stretching it and distinguish width from circumference. Measure inside leg along the inner seam from the crotch join to the hem. Compare rise and thigh room as well as the waist.
Check sitting comfort and the intended shoes
Try sitting and moving. The waistband should not dig in and pockets should not gape strongly. Check the length with the intended shoes; the amount of break is partly a style choice. Do not assume stretch or alteration allowance from a photo. Confirm the size before having a hem altered.
