Belt or braces? Consider the construction of your trousers and the occasion.

REAL MAN · Gifts and accessories

Belts and braces support trousers differently. Start with the trousers’ construction and your comfort, then consider the look.

Check the trousers first

For trousers with belt loops, choose a strap width that fits comfortably. Do not use a tight belt to compensate for a substantially oversized waistband.

Clips and buttons are not interchangeable

Clip-on braces grip the waistband; check compatibility with delicate fabrics. Button-on braces require appropriately positioned buttons, not simply belt loops. Read the specific product’s fastening and adjustment information.

Adjust for movement

Braces should hold the waistband at the intended height without pulling excessively when you sit. Maximum strap length is not a guaranteed body-height range. In a conventional smart outfit, one support method is usually enough; coordinate the accessory with the shirt and tie rather than adding every detail at once.
