REAL MAN · Style and occasions
Aim to be appropriate, comfortable and yourself. A coherent outfit matters more than an individual statement piece.
Follow the invitation first
Check the stated dress code, setting and time. Ask the hosts if the request is unclear. Traditional black tie calls for a tuxedo-style outfit, not simply a dark suit with a black necktie; a relaxed garden event may have very different expectations.
Build around a calm colour palette
When a suit is appropriate, navy or grey can provide a versatile starting point. A white or pale-blue shirt may work unless the hosts specify otherwise. Keep shoes clean and comfortable, and choose a belt in a related colour family. Consider the tie knot, collar and lapel proportions together rather than separately.
Try the complete outfit in advance
Sit, move and check trouser length with the intended shoes. Consider travel, temperature and time on your feet. The product recommendations below offer additions to your wardrobe, not a complete outfit for every dress code. A regular shirt is not automatically a substitute for formal eveningwear.
